Installation
Prerequisites
- An AI coding tool - Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or any AI you prefer
- git ≥ 2.41 - installed automatically by the script if missing; powers fai's local vault storage
fai layers on top of your AI tool. It gives your AI memory that compounds.
Install
Pick your platform - Deno and git are installed for you automatically if needed:
Windows (PowerShell):
iwr -useb https://www.fathym.com/fai/install.ps1 | iex
macOS / Linux:
curl -fsSL https://www.fathym.com/fai/install.sh | sh
Already have Deno? Run directly:
deno run -A jsr:@fathym/fai/install
Run
fai
The first time, fai asks two quick questions: which model distills your sessions and which one indexes them. Then you're building.
What Just Happened?
On that first run:
- Your workbench was created
- Your context was initialized
- Your AI is connected and ready
- Your synthesis and embeddings providers were chosen
- An anonymous device ID was created. fai sends usage analytics by default - see Privacy and Telemetry →
That's all the configuration there is. Your workbench set itself up based on your project. From here, everything you do compounds.
Every Run After
No setup questions. fai picks up your sessions, and your AI has full context
from last time. Tomorrow, next week, next month - your AI remembers.
