Saving and Sharing Layouts
OpenX keeps your arrangement of each workspace as you work (see Layouts). This guide is for the rest: arrangements you name, the layouts a workspace offers everyone, and getting an earlier version back. Every action says "layout", so none is ever mistaken for the canvas's Save, Commit or Deploy.
Find your layouts
Open Workspace > Layouts. From the top:
| Item | What it is |
|---|---|
| Showing the ... layout | The layout you are looking at. (modified) appears once you move something. |
| Reset to the ... layout | Puts that layout back as it was applied. Offered once you have changed something. |
| Reset to the built-in Default layout | Puts back OpenX's own Default arrangement. Offered while another layout is showing. |
| Layout history... | The last 20 versions of the layout showing. |
| Shipped layouts | The five ready-made layouts: Default, Quadrants, Build, Monitor and Review. |
| Your layouts | The layouts you saved under a name. |
| Workspace layouts | The layouts saved to this workspace for everyone in it. |
| Recently deleted | The layouts you deleted, kept so you can restore them. |
| Use the same layout in every workspace | A setting, ticked while it is on. |
| Shift+Space maximises the panel | A setting, ticked until you untick it. See Keyboard Shortcuts. |
Save your own layout
- Arrange the panels the way you want them.
- Choose Workspace > Layouts > Your layouts > Save current layout as....
- Give it a name and confirm.
The layout keeps the panels every workspace has. A node's editor or a set-up window you had open is not stored, so the layout fits any workspace.
Apply, rename, update or delete
Each of your layouts has its own submenu under Your layouts:
- Apply layout rearranges this workspace in one step. It works in any workspace: a panel the workspace lacks keeps its place, marked with the panel's name.
- Rename layout... changes its name.
- Update from current layout replaces it with how the workspace looks now.
- Use this layout for this workspace applies it and makes it what this workspace opens with.
- Delete layout removes it at once, with no "are you sure?". The notice at the foot of the
workspace says
Deleted <name>.with an Undo button for 10 seconds. Workspaces you arranged with it keep their panels where they are.
Applying a layout is one step, and the notice at the foot of the workspace has an Undo button, as for the shipped layouts.
Get a deleted layout back
Within the 10 seconds, choose Undo on the notice. After that, the layout is still kept: open
Workspace > Layouts > Recently deleted. Each kept layout is listed as Restore layout
"<name>", and choosing it puts the layout back in Your layouts. A deleted workspace layout is
listed as Restore workspace layout "<name>", only for people who hold Manage workspace layouts.
When nothing is kept, the list says "No deleted layouts".
If you choose a layout that was deleted somewhere else, such as on your other computer or by someone who manages the workspace's layouts, OpenX says "That layout is no longer there." and refreshes the lists.
Use the same layout in every workspace
Turn on Workspace > Layouts > Use the same layout in every workspace to keep one arrangement everywhere. While it is on, every workspace opens with it, and a change in one shows in all of them.
Each workspace's own layout is kept while the setting is on. Turn it off and each workspace opens the way you last left it there.
Workspace layouts
A workspace layout is an arrangement saved to the workspace for everyone in it.
- Anyone in the workspace can open Workspace layouts and choose Apply layout. Applying one makes it your own copy: if it changes later, your arrangement stays as it is.
- People who hold Manage workspace layouts also see Save current layout to this workspace..., and Rename layout... and Delete layout on each workspace layout. Every owner of the workspace holds this right.
If someone without the right tries to save one, OpenX answers: "Saving a layout to this workspace needs the Manage workspace layouts right. Nothing was saved."
No one can change or reset another person's own layout, and nothing is ever locked: you can always move your panels.
Restore an earlier version
- Choose Layout history...: from Workspace > Layouts for the layout showing, or from a layout's own submenu for one of your layouts or a workspace layout.
- Pick a version from the last 20.
- Confirm.
The layout OpenX keeps for you adds one version for each sitting, not one for each move, so the last 20 reach back days or weeks (see Layouts). A named or workspace layout keeps one version each time you save it.
The restored version becomes the newest one, so the restore itself can be undone the same way.
