Keyboard Shortcuts
Everything you can do to the workspace panels with a mouse, you can also do with the keyboard. This page lists every key. See Accessibility for what OpenX promises and how a screen reader hears each change.
Every key
| Key | What it does | Where it works |
|---|---|---|
| F6 | Moves to the next open panel, left to right, then top to bottom, then floating panels; after the last, back to the first | Anywhere in the panels, except while you are typing in a box |
| Shift+F6 | Moves to the panel before | The same |
| Tab | From a panel's title bar, into the panel; Tab always leaves the panels too | Everywhere |
| Left and Right arrows | Make the panels beside a divider narrower or wider, a small step each press | On a divider between panels side by side |
| Up and Down arrows | Make the panels above and below a divider shorter or taller | On a divider between stacked panels |
| Enter | Collapses the side panel beside a divider to a thin strip; Enter again opens it at the size it had | On a divider beside a side panel |
| Left and Right arrows, Home, End | Show the next, the previous, the first or the last tab | On a panel's tabs, when panels share one title bar |
| Shift+Space | Fills the workspace with one panel; again puts every panel back | Pointing at a panel, or in it; never while you are typing in a box |
| Escape | Cancels a panel you are dragging, and it goes back where it was; with a panel maximised, puts every panel back; otherwise takes you to the canvas. It never closes a panel (why) | In a panel, unless a menu, a list or the box you are typing in uses Escape itself |
| Arrow keys | Move the selected node a small step; with Shift, a larger step | On a selected node on the canvas |
A divider is the thin line between two panels. Press Tab until it is highlighted, then use the arrows. A double-click on a divider puts it back at the size it started at.
Moving a panel without dragging
Each panel's menu (the three dots on its title bar) has Move to, which lists every place a drag could put the panel: an edge of the workspace, beside another panel, or as a tab with it. It also has Maximise, Collapse, Close, Float and Reset location.
In any menu:
- Enter on the menu's button opens it, with the first item selected;
- Down and Up move through the items, and Home and End go to the first and last;
- Right, Enter or Space on Move to (or any item with ▶) opens its list;
- Left or Escape goes back out of that list;
- Escape closes the menu and puts you back on its button.
Turning a key off
Shift+Space is the only key here made of a letter, number or space, and it can be turned off for people who press it by accident. It already never acts while you are typing: in Thinky's box, a field, a list or the query editor it types a space. Every other key uses F6, an arrow, Enter, Tab, Home, End or Escape, which never type anything.
To turn it off, open Workspace > Layouts and untick Shift+Space maximises the panel, at the foot of the menu beside Use the same layout in every workspace. It is ticked until you untick it. With it unticked, Shift+Space does nothing in the panels, and you can still maximise a panel from its title bar or its menu. The choice is kept for you, so it follows you to every workspace and every computer you sign in on. Tick it again any time to bring the key back.
The first time Shift+Space maximises a panel in a browser, the notice that tells you how to restore it (press Shift+Space or Escape) also tells you where this switch is.
