My Layout Looks Different

You open a workspace and the panels are not where you left them. Your layout is kept on the server, not in one browser, so the cause is almost always one of these. Nothing here loses a layout: each one keeps its last 20 versions.

A different kind of screen

OpenX keeps one layout for a desktop, one for a tablet and one for a phone. Anything you use with a mouse is a desktop, at any size, so a small laptop window keeps your desktop layout. A phone is a touch screen with a shorter side up to 500 px, and a tablet is a touch-first screen (no mouse) larger than that. A tablet can be a different kind of screen from your desktop, so it shows that kind's layout.

A tablet and a phone follow your desktop layout until you change them. Once you have, they keep their own. Arrange the panels on that screen and OpenX keeps it for next time.

A phone always shows the canvas full screen with a bar of panel buttons along the bottom; that is the phone's arrangement, not a lost layout. See Working on a laptop and a phone.

A workspace layout you applied

Applying a layout from Workspace > Layouts > Workspace layouts replaces your arrangement with a copy of it. Workspace > Layouts names the layout showing. To go back, use Undo on the notice straight after applying, or Layout history... later.

A workspace layout never changes yours by itself: if its owner updates it, your copy stays as it is.

The same layout in every workspace

When Use the same layout in every workspace is ticked under Workspace > Layouts, every workspace opens with that one layout, and arranging one workspace arranges them all. Turn it off and each workspace opens the way you last left it there.

A newer layout from your other computer

When you come back to a window, OpenX checks for a newer layout and shows it, so a computer left open all day never writes its old arrangement over the one you made somewhere else. Two tabs of the same browser simply follow each other.

If you changed the layout on both computers, OpenX keeps the newer one and offers the other in one quiet line: Your layout changed on your other computer. Use that one instead? Choose Use that one to switch to it, or Keep this one to let the line go. Both versions are in the history either way.

Your saved layout could not be read

If OpenX cannot read a saved layout, the workspace still opens, and you see: "Your saved layout could not be read, so the workspace default is showing. Your layout is kept in its history." Arrange the panels again, or restore an earlier version from Layout history....

Get an earlier version back

Choose Workspace > Layouts > Layout history..., pick a version from the last 20 and confirm. The layout OpenX keeps for you adds one version for each sitting, so the last 20 reach back days or weeks. The restored version becomes the newest, so you can undo the restore the same way. The full steps are in Saving and sharing layouts.

A layout you deleted is not in the history: choose Workspace > Layouts > Recently deleted, or see Get a deleted layout back.
